One problem with the lathe is I now have a whole set of chisels lying around the place, which is kinda annoying.
I spent yesterday designing a quick tool support to attach to the lathe bench in Fusion 360 as usual:
I cut it on the laser cutter out of 5mm MDF:
Unfortunately I made a couple of mistakes:
- I had misremembered the thickness as 6mm not 5mm so the joints stick out slightly. Not really a big problem
- And I misaligned the middle support so the holes were in the same places – I fixed the design and re-cut that bit.
Then I test fitted it together and then glued it together with PVA wood glue:
After leaving it overnight, I attached it this afternoon:
It works really well! I didn’t glue the top on so if I gain more tools and need more holes, its really easy to remove and fix.
