I had a whole piece written about the weekend, but managed to accidentally zap it, and I can’t be arsed rewriting it just now. Anyway, I’ve just posted some more photos from the Botanics and Inverleith row. Do the clicky, you know you want to! .

Wee camera
Hmm, I think I need to get a wee camera for taking to parties/ windy-hilltops-when-I’ve-had-far-too-much-to-drink-*cough*. Looking about, I think its gonna have to be a Canon. Why Canon specifically? Well, have a look here. I quite like the idea of being able to write custom photography-assisting scripts which run on the camera itself….
Shadowtrees
I went for a wander in the Botanics this morning with the two D’s (David+Diego). Glad to get out of the house on such a nice day, as I spent all yesterday in bed with a headache. I took some photos of tree shadows as well.
Symbian phone hacked
Booo, someone beat me to it! Anyway, I followed the instructions here, and they worked perfectly; I can see all the private interesting folders and do pretty much anything I want to my phone now. I can’t *believe* they left such a huge hole in a supposedly secure product: distributing the phone-side debugger with aContinue reading “Symbian phone hacked”
ipodsync python script
I am fed up with using GUIs to sync my ipod with my music database, so I hacked the attached script together this evening. It uses the python bindings of libgpod. Originally, I thought of using rsync for the file update part of this, but the issue is rsync doesn’t allow you to reformat theContinue reading “ipodsync python script”
St Bernards well photos
I finally got round to processing these.. They’re from a few weeks ago, when St. Bernard’s well was open, so we headed there with friends. Afterwards we went to the Botanics glasshouses. Hmm, my first batch of DVDs arrived today; included my copy of the silent film “Der Golem”, which I’ve been wanting to seeContinue reading “St Bernards well photos”
Terrarium
These tiny terrariums seem kinda cool. Unfortunately, given our prior history of plant keeping, they’d die from dehydration. Or get knocked over and die. Or get hit by a tiny meteor, but survive, only to contract a newly arrived viral infection propagated through interstellar space by comet. And die. Actually, Nicola has just reminded meContinue reading “Terrarium”
Chinese lantern photos
I finally got round to processing my photos from the Chinese lantern festival; they’re here! My first real attempt at taking photos in the dark; some are better than others! 🙂
Phorm, ISP monitoring, and privacy
In case someone hasn’t seen this already (several people I know haven’t), I thought I should pass this on. It doesn’t affect me as I am not a customer of any of these ISPs. It has recently been revealed that the “big three” ISPs (BT Retail, Virgin Media, and Talk Talk) are planning to sellContinue reading “Phorm, ISP monitoring, and privacy”
Crochet
I found this interesting use of crochet (scroll down for the pictures). I like the sea slugs best myself 🙂 Oh, and this is pretty cool too: long exposure photography using flashlights. Next time we’re on the beach with some Poi maybe? 🙂 Found ’em both on make magazine’s blog. I’ve just installed a tt-rss,Continue reading “Crochet”
